Streakin Rob was named the 4-1 Winterbook favorite for the 143rd running of the Queen's Plate. The 1 1/4-mile Queen's Plate, Canada's most famous horse race and North America's oldest continuously run stakes event, is set for Sunday, June 23 at Woodbine. The 79th edition of the Winterbook, an early list of win odds for horses nominated to the Queen's Plate, was formulated by Jennifer Morrison-Learn for the fifth straight year. She said Streakin Rob, a dark bay son of Bold Executive owned by Cudney Stables and Allan Kent, and trained by Jim Day, had the best chance of taking the annual "gallop for the guineas."The 9-2 second choice in the early odds is Sovereign Award 2-year-old filly champion, Ginger Gold. Sid Attard trains the gray daughter of Golden Gear for Mel Lawson's Jim Dandy Stable. While Streakin Rob spent his winter in Ontario at Day's Day-by-Day Farm, Ginger Gold was in training in Kentucky and was expected to return to Woodbine this week. Ginger Gold was three-for-four en route to the Sovereign Award, capturing the Shady Well, Natalma and Princess Elizabeth Stakes in 2001.
