Lone Star Park and the Mexico City-based Corporación Interamericana de Entretenmiento S.A. de C.V. (CIE) recently reached an agreement to extend their strategic partnership through 2003.

The Grand Prairie, Texas track has served as an advisor to CIE since that company renovated the Hipódromo de las Américas racetrack in 1999.

"We're extremely pleased to expand our relationship with CIE and expect to collaborate on some additional sports and entertainment events in the very near future," said Corey Johnsen, Lone Star Park's president and general manager.

The Hipódromo de las Américas was dormant until November of 1999. In February, CIE opened a multi-level convention center overlooking the track.

NextStage, a live entertainment venue, recently opened on the property adjacent to Lone Star Park and Lone Star officials hope CIE can help to bring Latin musical acts to the facility.

"The members of the CIE team are experts in putting together world-class entertainment," Johnsen said. "On an international scale, they operate arenas, amusement parks, sports stadiums, and of course, one of the world's most beautiful racetracks. Moreover, their vision of an entertainment complex with multiple options dovetails perfectly with our own."

CIE officials attended the opening night performance at NextStage and they hope Lone Star can help bring U.S. sporting events to Mexico City.
