While the University of Kentucky men's basketball team squared off against the University of Florida just up the road in Gainesville, Fla., promising prospects of the equine class stretched their legs for prospective buyers March 8.

This was the second of two under-tack shows for Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s selected 2-year-olds in training sale at Ocala Training Center in Ocala, Fla.

Hip No. 287, a colt by Indian Charlie consigned by McKathan Bros., agent, turned in the fastest eighth of a mile, stopping the clock in :09 4/5. The bay colt, bred in Kentucky by Mike Abraham, was produced from the stakes-placed Carson City mare Moroccan Rose and was bought by F H M B for $90,000 out of the VanMeter Sales consignment at last year's Keeneland September sale.

A pair of colts from the de Meric Sales consignment recorded the two fastest breezes at a quarter mile.

Hip No. 305, Ocean Knight, by Curlin  --Ocean Goddess, by Stormy Atlantic  , worked in :20 3/5 to post the fastest work at the distance. The colt is from the family of graded stakes winner Winter Melody and was bred in Kentucky by Erik and Pavla Nygaard's Thor-Bred Stables.

"He's a beautiful colt," said Nick de Meric. "He's a strapping individual, and he has a lovely shoulder. I have to give credit to Erik and Pavla, trainer Benny Betts and exercise rider Paco Lopez because they sent him to me at the sale in great shape."

Hip No. 317, a son of Half Ours  , worked a quarter in :20 4/5. The gray or roan colt is out of the Indian Charlie mare Pata Fresca. De Meric acquired the colt from the consignment of I C Stables for $50,000 at last year's OBS August sale.

"He was as uncomplicated a 2-year-old as we have had all year," de Meric said. "Then when we started breezing him he made our eyes pop. His work at the breeze show was all on his own merit. It was only the second quarter-mile work of his life. We think the world of him."

Two horses worked quarters in :21 flat. Hip No.218, consigned by Ian Vickers, agent, is a bay colt by Broken Vow   out of stakes-placed Kickin' the Clouds, by Dixieland Band, and is a full brother to graded stakes-placed Cloudy Vow. Hip No. 263, consigned by Eddie Woods, agent, is a chestnut filly from  Super Saver  's first crop. She is out of graded stakes-placed Melissa Jo, by Fusaichi Pegasus  , and is a half sister to stakes placed Joedini

As  result of the postponement of the under tack preview on March 6 because of inclement weather, the sale has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 11 and will be held in one continuous session beginning at 10 a.m.

The sale will be streamed live at bloodhorse.com/obs.
