Barbara Smollin's Sir Bear, the defending champion in the Gulfstream Park Handicap (gr. I), breezed a half-mile at Calder Race Course Wednesday in :49 4/5 while tuning up for the 2002 edition of the 1 1/4 event slated for March 30.

"Yes sir, he's still on schedule," said trainer Ralph Ziadie when indicating his satisfaction with the mid-week morning move.

Earlier this season on Jan. 12, Sir Bear, a 9-year-old gelding, got up in the late stage to capture the Skip Away Handicap (gr. III) by a half-length in his most recent trip to the post.
