A new online horse industry publication founded by former New York Racing Association president and CEO Charles Hayward was launched Jan. 22. The site can be accessed at http://thoroughbredracing.com/.

According to a release from Thoroughbred Racing Commentary, the site is "designed to promote best practices and stimulate dialogue among Thoroughbred industry constituents on a globalscale. TRC...will address important industry topics in eight subject categories: racing, racecourses, breeding, sales, regulatory and wagering, owners and trainers, technology, and aftercare."

Contributors include Greg Wood of The Guardian, James Willoughby, Julian Muscat, and Sean Magee in the United Kingdom, with Irish Sunday Times chief racing writer Donn McLean and author and broadcaster Lissa Oliver heading up the Irish team.

"Having worked in industry leadership roles at the Daily Racing Form and at the New York Racing Association, it is crystal clear to me that we need international engagement and collaboration to take advantage of best practices from around the globe," said Hayward, who is the publisher, in a statement. "When I attended the 2011 International Federation of Horseracing Authorities conference, the desire to share information and help reform the industry was palpable, however there was no vehicle to continue that dialogue. That's why we created TRC."

Hayward was dismissed from NYRA in 2012 following an interim report from the New York State Racing and Wagering Board that said NYRA executives had known the racing association was violating state law by not lowering pari-mutuel takeout rates on exotic wagers. Hayward later said his employment was "terminated arbitrarily and without cause" and that assertions made in the interim report were inaccurate. He also noted that he cooperated with two investigations that followed the interim report.

TRC is headquartered in New York, where Hayward is based along with editor Ashley Herriman and TRC's marketing and editorial staffs. Former Racing Post editor-in-chief Chris Smith is based in London and Paul Haigh will cover Australasia from a base in Malaysia.
