Came Home, who is looking to take the next step up the Kentucky Derby ladder, drilled a sharp half in :46 4/5 at Santa Anita Tuesday in preparation for Saturday's one-mile San Rafael Stakes.

The only time the son of Gone West has attempted to stretch his speed farther than seven furlongs was in the one-turn, 1 1/16-mile Breeders' Cup Juvenile, in which he finished seventh.

"I don't think he'll have any problems," said co-owner John Toffan, who owns the colt with longtime partner Trudy McCaffery. "I think he's got that."

Came Home made his 3-year-old debut in the seven-furlong San Vicente Stakes, which he won impressively by four lengths. Chris McCarron again will be aboard in the San Rafael.

Others expected for the San Rafael are Fonz's (Alex Solis), runner-up in the Hollywood Futurity in his last start; Pelirrojo (Garrett Gomez), winner of two of his three career starts; Werblin (Gary Stevens), third in the San Vicente; and Easy Grades (Eddie Delahoussaye), Night Passion (Corey Nakatani), and Ocean Sound (Kent Desormeaux).
