French Classic Winner Egyptband Dies

Egyptband, winner of the 2000 French Oaks, the Prix de Diane Hermes (Fr-I), has died from complications from colic. A homebred for brothers Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, 5-year-old Egyptband (Dixieland Band--Egyptown, by Top Ville) was boarded at Hagyard Farm near Lexington and had been bred to Kingmambo.
Egyptband won four of nine races and earned $669,651 racing in the name of Wertheimer et Frere. Egyptband also won the Grand Prix de Chantilly (Fr-II) and her four group I stakes-placings included a runner-up effort in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Lucien Barriere.
