First Foals Reported for Shackleford

Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner Shackleford   sired his first reported foal, a filly born Jan. 4 at Alastar Thoroughbreds near Nicholasville, Ky.

The chestnut fillysporting a strong white blaze like her sireis out of the stakes-placed Saint Ballado mare Angel Flying.

"She's gorgeous," said Luke Sullivan, manager of Alastar Farm, in a release. "She is a tall, racy filly with a face just like Shack."

Shackleford, who bred 168 mares in his first book, was the first horse in more than 50 years to win an American classic at 3 and the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I) at 4. He will stand his second season in 2014 at John Phillips' Darby Dan Farm near Lexington for a fee of $20,000, due when the foal stands and nurses.

On Jan. 6, Shackleford sired his second reported foal when a bay colt out of the Maria's Mon mare Mecanique was born at Dale Romans' Romans Farm near Lexington.
