Indiana Downs has been approved for 120 racing programs—114 Thoroughbred and six Quarter Horse—for 2014.
The Indiana Horse Racing Commission approved the request during its December meeting.
The meet will begin May 6 and end Nov. 1, according to documents submitted to the IHRC by Indiana Downs, which is owned by Centaur Gaming. The 2014 schedule reflects a mix of day and night racing at the track located southeast of Indianapolis.
Racing will be held four days a week from May 6-July 12 on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday schedule. Thursdays will be added from July 17 through the end of the meet to make for five-day weeks.
First post time Tuesday through Thursday will be 2:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday programs will begin at 5:05 p.m.
Indiana Downs in previous years raced at 4:55 p.m. or 6:55 p.m., but for the last few months of its 2013 meet experimented with afternoon racing.
Hoosier Park Racing & Casino, also owned by Centaur, was approved for 160 Standardbred dates for 2014. The track will race from March 28-Nov. 15 with racing five days a week (Tuesdays through Saturdays) and a first-race post time of 5:15 p.m.
Through 2012 Indiana Downs and Hoosier Park each had Thoroughbred and Standardbred meets. When Centaur purchased Indiana Downs in bankruptcy court, the company proposed the one-breed, one-track schedule for 2013 and beyond.
