Churchill Downs has named Doug Bredar to serve as director of racing and racing secretary.

Bredar, who currently serves as the assistant racing secretary and
stakes coordinator at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, Cal., will assume the same titles and duties at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky. Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) owns Churchill Downs and Ellis Park, as well as Hollywood Park.

Bredar, 40, succeeds the late Jerry Botts as Churchill Downs racing
secretary. Botts had served in that post at Churchill Downs since 1985. He will be the first person to simultaneously hold the jobs of racing secretary at Churchill Downs and Ellis Park since Allan "Doc" Lavin held both posts in 1959-60, as well as the first to hold both positions since CDI purchased Ellis Park in 1998.

He will assume his duties at Churchill Downs on March 8.

Bredar is a native of Des Plaines, Ill. and a graduate of the University of Arizona. He previously served as racing secretary at Turf Paradise, Prairie Meadows, and the Woodlands. He also served as assistant racing secretary at Hoosier Park, Atlantic City, Sportsman's Park, and Northhampton (Mass.) Fair.

He has also served as stakes coordinator at Gulfstream Park, Hialeah Park, Arlington Park and Calder Race Course. Bredar also worked as a placing judge at Gulfstream, Hialeah, Arlington Park, Calder, Keeneland, The Meadowlands, Hawthorne Race Course and Beulah Park.
