For the third straight day, a colt by Storm Creek was the session topper at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's August Yearling Sale. The Storm Creek colt out of I'm a Kitty Kat (by Alleged) was purchased by Linda Rice, as agent for N M J Stables, for $85,000 from the Eddie Woods consignment. For the session, 198 yearlings sold for a total of $1,916,300, compared to 217 yearlings bringing $2,332,300 in the corresponding session a year ago. The Wednesday average price was $9,678 compared with 1999's $10,748 average for the second open session, and the median price was $6,000 in comparison to last year's $7,000 median figure. The buyback percentage was 28.2%, down from 31.3% in 1999… Keeneland will offer 24 stakes races worth a record $4,425,000 during its 16-day fall meeting which gets under way on Saturday, Oct. 7. Other meet highlights will include a new sponsor, the elevation of two stakes to grade III status, purse increases for 11 stakes and the unveiling of a new added-money event, the McConnell Springs Stakes, which will be run Oct. 25… Jockey Jeff Lloyd injured in Saturday’s first race at Philadelphia Park remains in the Frankford-Torresdale Hospital Trauma Unit where Wednesday he was fitted for a brace to stabilize his injured back. Early indications are that Lloyd could be out of action for six to eight months.
