Record Revenue for Part 1 of Arqana Sale
Arqana posted record revenue Oct. 23 for part 1 of its October yearling sale, which closed three days of lively trade in Deauville that further underscored the vibrancy of the European yearling market.
Cumulative total receipts were 25.4% higher than last year's part 1 sale, reaching an all-time high of €14,100,000 ($19,424,188 in United States funds) for 389 horses sold.
The clearance rate rose to 83.3%, compared with 72.2%.
Average price and median were up 14.3% and 13%, respectively, to €36,190 ($49,855) and €26,000 ($35,818).
The overall highest-priced yearling came on opening day Oct. 21 when Coolmore bloodstock adviser Demi O'Bryne secured a colt by current leading freshman sire Mastercraftsman for €320,000 ($437,728).
Offered by Lucien Urano's Ecurie des Monceaux, the sale-topping colt is out of the winning Fasliyev mare Pertinence and is a half brother to multiple French stakes winner La Peinture, who was group III-placed. His second dam Peace Signal is a half sister to 1997 European Horse of the Year and successful sire Peintre Celebre.
A King's Best filly out of the winning Fasliyev mare Aliyeska sold for the top price €75,000 ($103,324) on the third and final day of part 1.
Consigned by Haras du Cadran, the filly was knocked down to trainer Jean-Claude Rouget. Her dam, Aliyeska, has a produced two winners. The extended family includes English champion and sire Kalaglow and French group I winner Montmartre.
Rouget trained the filly's half sister Whipsaw City as 3-year-old in 2011 before she was sent to the U.S., where she was twice stakes-placed at Belmont Park in 2012.
There were 133 horse sold on day three for total sales of €3,017,000 ($4,156,352), a 34.9% rise from last year's corresponding session. Average price was up 12.6% to €22,684 ($31,252), and the median increased 17.6% to €20,000 ($27,553).
The clearance rate showed marked improvement at 86.4%, compared with 66.9% in 2012.
