Eduardo Pedroza settled the 5-year-old Black Sam Bellamy
horse behind pacesetter Orsino
and urged him to the lead 300 meters out en route to securing a three-quarter-length win. Derby Italiano (Ity-I) winner Biz The Nurse
deposed Orsino in a close finish for second while giving up his unbeaten record this season.
Trained in Germany by Andreas Wohler for Sunrace Stables, Earl of Tinsdal was returning to the winner's circle for the first time in 16 months since taking the Gran Premio di Milano (Ity-I) eight starts back in June 2012. In the interim, he was competitive five times in group races, including a trio of third-place finishes at the top level, most recently to Meandre
in the Grosser Preis von Europa (Ger-I) Sept. 22 at Cologne.
Earl of Tinsdal was timed in 2:31.10 for the 2,400 meters (about 1 1/2 miles) on turf. He has six wins, three seconds, and four thirds from 17 career starts. He added a third group I victory to his record, which also includes the 2011 Rheingold-Pokal (Ger-I), which followed a runner-up finish the IDEE Deutsches Derby (Ger-I, German Derby).
Bred in Germany by Hannes K. Gutschow, Earl of Tinsdal's sire is a full brother to elite sire Galileo
and a half brother to European Horse of the Year and freshman sire Sea The Stars
. A 14-year-old son of Sadler's Well, Black Sam Bellamy stands at Shade Oak Stud in England.
Earl of Tinsdal is out of the winning Dashing Blade mare Earthly Paradise, who also produced stakes-winning half siblings Emily of Tinsdal and Earlsalsa.
