Trainer David Hofmans revealed that early Kentucky Derby (gr. I) favorite Siphonic spiked a slight fever on Friday, causing the conditioner to push back the colt's scheduled Saturday work a day or two. The good news is that the Amerman Racing Stables colorbearer missed just one day of training and was back on the track Saturday morning.

"He spiked a slight temperature (Friday)," Hofmans said, "so he jogged this morning. I think he'll work maybe (Sunday) or the next day."

Siphonic breezed four furlongs in an easy :50 3/5 over a fast track at Hollywood Park last week in what was his first morning drill since finishing second after a troubled break in the Jan 19. Santa Catalina S. (gr. II) at Santa Anita. The Kentucky-bred son of Siphon is still on schedule to start next in the March 17 San Felipe S. (gr. II) at Santa Anita, followed by the April 6 Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) before heading to Louisville for a probable start in the May 4 Run for the Roses.

Siphon's career line stands at three wins from five starts, with a second and a third, for earnings of $733,978. He won last year's Hollywood Futurity (gr. I), Lane's End Breeders' Futurity (gr. II) and was third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I).
