Jim Gagliano, executive vice president and general manager at Philadelphia Park, will leave that post Feb. 22 to take a job with Magna Entertainment. Gagliano will head Magna's off-track betting operations.
Philadelphia Park, in southeastern Pennsylvania, is owned by Greenwood Racing. Gagliano moved to Greenwood several years ago after having served as associate general manager at Meadowlands in New Jersey.
"I'm leaving with the blessings of Hal Handel and Bob Green," Gagliano said in reference to his bosses at Greenwood. "It's a chance to get in on the ground floor of Magna's OTB operations. "I'll be based out of New Jersey, but my responsibility will be on a national scope, specifically Pittsburgh (Pa.), Oregon, and a few other properties they're looking to develop."
Greenwood and Magna have common interests. Both are involved in the new Racetrack Television Network, and they are partners in a bid for New York City Off-Track Betting Corp. In Pennsylvania, they each operate successful account wagering services: Magna has XpressBet, the former Call-A-Bet, which is headquartered at The Meadows; and Greenwood has PhoneBet, which operates out of Philadelphia Park.
