The field entry, comprised of all 3-year-olds aside from the 23 individual betting interests, remains the favorite late into the first day of wagering in round one of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. The field began the day the 4-1 morning-line favorite, but that price dropped quickly as over $10,000 was wagered on the entry in the opening minutes of the bet. After dipping under even-money, the field now stands at 6-5 (as of approximately 6:45 p.m. ET Thursday).
Undefeated Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner Johannesburg is also garnering support. The Irish-based colt is now 7-1 down from 10-1 on the morning line. Repent (12-1), Siphonic (13-1) and Came Home (13-1) are next.
Not getting much support early on is Fountain of Youth starter Political Attack (99-1), who only took in $193 from a day-one pool of $43,677. Also at 99-1 is Golden State Mile winner Cappuchino, who had $352 bet on him on opening day.
Betting continues through Sunday.
