Hip 523, a half brother to Super Saver, brought $1.7 million.

A half brother to Super Saver   lived up to expectations Sept. 11 when the son of Medaglia d'Oro   was purchased by B. Wayne Hughes and Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Farm for $1.7 million at the Keeneland September yearling sale.

Out of the A.P. Indy mare Supercharger, the colt, bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, is a half brother to Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Super Saver.

"Wayne's a very good partner. Wayne was a very close friend of my husband Jess," Banke said of the ownership partnership. "(The colt is) very athletic, great mover, super pedigree. If he makes a couple of graded stakes starts, he'll be a wonderful, wonderful stallion. I've had the best Medaglia d'Oro ever to be bred, and he reminded me a little bit of her."

Stonestreet campaigned 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, a daughter of Medaglia d'Oro.

The colt, hip 523, who had drawn widespread praise in the barns, is also a half brother to WinStar's grade III winner Brethren  .

The sale of Super Saver's half brother punctuated active bidding during the mid-point of the third session of the sale that included a $1.55 million Tapit   colt.

The colt, hip 515, bred in Kentucky by Gainesway Thoroughbreds and consigned by Gainesway, was purchased by Nat Rea's Regis Farms. The colt is out of the grade III-winning Orientate   mare Successful Outlook, who also produced 2-year-old filly Sweet Lulu, a daughter of Mr. Greeley who captured the Test Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course recently.

"If he runs on the track, we can stand him, you know? He's got a very good, live pedigree, he's a half brother to a grade I winner now, Tapit speaks for himself. He's got a catlike walk, he's just light on his feet, athletic," said Richard Hogan representing Regis. "I thought he was a great colt with the best physical I've seen, probably, for the sale."
