Early Kentucky Derby favorite Siphonic, who came out of his second-place finish in the Santa Catalina Stakes with a "stiff neck," after stumbling badly at the start, returned to the work tab Sunday, breezing an easy half in :50 2/5 at Hollywood Park.
"He's doing great now," trainer Dave Hofmans said. "We'll work him six furlongs next Saturday, then start looking at the San Felipe (on March 17). He had a stiff neck for a few days following the Santa Catalina, but he back to normal."
Siphonic, winner of the Lane's End Breeders' Futurity and Hollywood Futurity, finished a solid third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Following the San Felipe, he'll point for the Santa Anita Derby.
Hofmans suffered a setback with his other promising 3-year-old Definite Edge, who bled badly in last Friday's Sham Stakes, putting the colt behind schedule.
