Decarchy became the third graded stakes winner produced by his dam when he won Saturday's Tanforan Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Golden Gate Fields. The half-brother of grade I winners Chester House and Honest Lady completed the 1 1/16-mile turf race in 1:44.25 on a course labeled "good."
Under jockey Russell Baze, Decarchy rated in mid-pack, then rallied through the stretch en route to the victory. Ninebanks finished second, just ahead of 68-1 longshot Takin It Deep. Takin It Deep was subsequently disqualified and placed seventh. Finishing behind Takin It Deep were Poker Brad, Sea to See, Big Board, Diggit, Sirpa, and I'madrifter.
A Juddmonte Farms homebred trained by Bobby Frankel, Decarchy's previous best stakes performance was a second-place finish in the Citation Handicap (gr. IIT) in his final start of 2001.
The 5-year-old son of Distant View--Toussaud was sent off as the 7-10 favorite and returned $3.40, $3, and $2.10. Ninebanks paid $7.80 and $3.40, with Poker Brad worth $3.20 to show. The $1 exacta paid $12.10. (Charts,
