Leading North American stallion Distorted Humor   was the top sire by average price at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select yearling sale held Aug. 5-6 at Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

WinStar Farm's 20-year-old son of Forty Niner had an average price of $567,000 for five sold.

His best-selling yearling was one of two seven-figure horses sold during the auction. The filly (Hip 23) out of the stakes winner Cascading (by A.P. Indy) was bought for $1 million by Charlotte Weber's Live Oak Plantation. The filly's third dam is the blue hen mare Better Than Honour, the dam of champion Rags to Riches, Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Jazil, and Breeders' Cup Marathon winner Man of Iron.

Medaglia d'Oro   was a close second by average at $531,250 for four sold. His top seller came on the first day of sale when Mike and Meg Levy's Bluewater Sales sold a $875,000 dark bay or brown colt (Hip 33) to Barry Irwin's Team Valor International. Darley's top sire has 46 black-type stakes winners worldwide and two champions.

Four representatives of the last crop of Indian Charlie brought an average price of $488,750. The son of In Excess, who died from cancer at 16 in 2011, was the sire of the top-selling horse on the second day of the sale—a colt out of the Storm Cat mare Queenie Cat, who sold for $750,000 to Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Stable and George Bolton.

Among first-crop yearling sires with two or more sold, Lane's End Farms' Quality Road   was the leader at $287,500 for two sold. Blame  , who stands at Claiborne Farm and was represented in the sale by more yearlings sold with six, had a solid average of $226,667. Quality Road's top horse was a $300,000 colt that was purchased by Ingordo Bloodstock. Blame's top seller was bought by Randy Gullatt as agent for $335,000.
