Stablemates General Challenge and River Keen, the respective first- and second-place finishers in last year’s Pacific Classic (gr. I), indicated their readiness for this Saturday’s renewal of the $1-million race with workouts at Del Mar Monday.
River Keen, who followed his Pacific Classic effort last year with victories in the Woodward Stakes and Jockey Club Gold Cup, zipped five-eighths of a mile in :58 4/5, fastest time of the day at the distance. General Challenge went the same five furlongs in :59 1/5.
Other Pacific Classic candidates on the work tab Monday were Euchre, who went six furlongs in 1:14 3/5, and his stablemate, Skimming, who was timed in 1:01 4/5 for five furlongs, and Forty One Carats, who went five-eighths of a mile in 1:00 3/5 with Eddie Delahoussaye up.
