Zafari Nation First Winner for Nationhood

Multiple stakes winner Nationhood   celebrated his first winner when 2-year-old Zafari Nation bested her five rivals in a 4 1/2 furlong maiden claiming sprint for juvenile fillies at Emerald Downs July 13 (VIDEO).

The bay filly, trained by Larry Pierce, crossed the wire in :58.83 with a 1 1/2 length lead on the dirt oval in her second start for owners Terry Pierce, Karen Angelos, and Swag Stables.

Bred in Washington by Karen Angelos and Keith Swagerty, the filly is out of A Jazzy Venture, by Jazzing Around.

Nationhood was bred in Kentucky by Lawrence Goichman and is an 11-year-old son of Cherokee Run out of the Danzig mare, Elhasna. First trained by Eoin Harty for Darley Stable, he was later campaigned by South Elkhorn Stable and Cander Racing and conditioned by Mike Chambers.
 
From his career record of 8-4-2 from 22 starts, Nationhood counts four wins and two runner-up finishes in black-type events. He stands at Blue Ribbon Farm in Washington, and his fee for the 2013 breeding season was $1,500.
