TwinSpires.com, the official advance deposit wagering service for Churchill Downs Inc., has launched an online wagering contest requiring players to place consecutive winning show bets on the entire card for selected racetracks.
Called the $50,000 Summer Showdown, the contest offers a daily $1,500 prize to anyone who strings together a complete set of $10 show bets. If no one makes it through the card, the prize money rolls over to the following day. The Summer Showdown launched July 17 with the opening day at Del Mar. One player made it through the first seven races before breaking his streak, so the carryover was $3,000 July 18 at Del Mar.
The Summer Showdown will alternate primarily between Del Mar and Saratoga Race Course. The contest will be at Del Mar through July 21, then return on July 31-Aug. 4 and Aug. 21-25. The action moves to Saratoga for July 24-28, Aug. 7-11, and Aug. 28-Sept. 1. Arlington Park is the track of choice Aug. 15-18, with no contest to be run on Aug. 14.
Mandatory payouts will be up for grabs every Sunday. The entire prize pool will be paid out weekly to whoever successfully places a full card of show bets or to the player(s) who make the most consecutive win bets.
"We believe the mandatory payout on Sundays will offer players tremendous value for getting involved," said Jeremy Clemons, TwinSpires.com's vice president of marketing.
The contest is open only to TwinSpires account holders. The first $10 show bet made by a customer on each race will be considered the contest entry. Win/place/show bets do not qualify. Participants are placing live bets, so if someone picks a horse that is scratched, the favorite is not automatically substituted. To stay in the contest, another $10 show bet has to be placed.
