Jockey Terry Thompson registered the 3,000th victory of his career in the first race at Prairie Meadows July 14 aboard Ifoundmy Mojo.
Traveling six furlongs, the winner went off as the 1-2 betting favorite in the allowance/optional claiming race for owner Maggi Moss and trainer Chris Richard. Settling in third through the first half-mile, the 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Spanish Steps pressed forward in the stretch to win by a margin of seven lengths in 1:10.86. Ifoundmy Mojo was claimed out of the race for $15,000.
Thompson, who will be 42 on Aug. 7, is a native of Omaha, Neb. He is a nine-time leading jockey at Prairie Meadows. This season at the Iowa oval, Thompson is currently second with 65 wins, behind leading jockey David Mello with 77.
In addition, he has won two riding titles at Oaklawn Park.
He began his riding career in 1992, according to Equibase, and has ranked in the top 100 jockeys in the U.S.—both in earnings and number of wins—in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2012. He has also ranked in the top 100 jockeys by earnings in 2008 and 2010.
Among the top horses he has ridden to victory are No Such Word, Just Jenda, Eight Belles, Old Fashioned , Payton d'Oro, Ruby's Reception, Sure Shot Biscuit, and Tejano Run.
