Trainer Stephen Margolis entered a pair of Judge T C colts in Saturday's $49,500 WEBN Frog Stakes, and the two justified their odds of 3-5 with one of the two colts holding the lead at every call in the one-mile test for 3-year-olds at Turfway Park. Request for Parole charged from just off the pace to win the race by 1 1/2 lengths over Perfect Drift, with stablemate Thunder on Land finishing third after setting the pace. Under jockey Brian Peck, Request for Parole completed the distance in 1:36.92 on a fast track.
The Frog Stakes marks Request for Parole's 3-year-old debut. As a juvenile, he won two of seven starts, including the seven-furlong Ellis Park Juvenile Stakes just over a month after defeating Stephentown by a neck in an Ellis Park maiden race. He also finished second to a pair of Ken McPeek-trained Kentucky Derby prospects in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II, won by Repent, with High Star third) and Iroquois (gr. III) and Miller Genuine Draft Cradle Stakes (both won by Harlan's Holiday). Request for Parole earned $31,300 for the win, his third in eight career starts. Request for Parole is out of the Deputy Minister mare Madison's Quest and was bred by Robert and Bea Roberts.
The Jeri and Sam Knighton-owned entry of Request for Parole and Thunder on Land returned $3.20, $2.20, and $2.20. Perfect Drift paid $2.40 and $2.40. The winning exacta combination returned $6.
Artistic Design came home fourth, followed by Private Horde, Crafty Beau, Scooter Roach, Cj's Pride, Ide Be Spencers, and Cayenne Call. (Chart, Equibase
