City Fair ran another strong race Saturday, winning the $82,775 Correction Handicap at Aqueduct by two lengths. City Fair, a 4-year-old trained by D. Wayne Lukas, has finished third or better in 11 of her last 12 starts while winning five.
"As you can see in her form, she gives 110 percent every time,"said assistant trainer Mike Maker. "She never seems to get away well from the one hole, but once she got outside, she ran. We'll keep her here through the winter. She's raced plenty and she's not very big, so we'll probably take it easy with her."
Look of the Lynx was second in the field of seven in a race for fillies and mares 3 years old and up. Another half-length behind in third was Outstanding Info. Wired to Fly finished fourth, followed by Bedside Manner and Cantkeepfromsingin. Dat You Miz Blue, the 4-5 favorite, raced wide and finished seventh, finishing ahead of only A. P. Andie.
City Fair, ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan and carrying 114 pounds, was timed for the six furlongs in 1:11.59 on a fast track. The winner earned $49,665 for William Young's Overbrook Farm. City Fair returned $13, $7, and $5.90. Look of the Lynx paid $16.20 and $8.30 and Outstanding Info showed at $6.40. The winning exacta combination paid $123.
The win marks the first in a stakes race for City Fair (Carson City--Encorevous, by Storm Bird), who previously finished second to Xtra Heat in the Interborough Handicap on Jan. 1 and second in the Holiday Inaugural Stakes on Dec. 1 at Turfway Park.
James Jerkens-trained Dat You Miz Blue was making her 5-year-old debut in the Correction. The five-time stakes winner's most recent previous race was a runner-up finish to Raging Fever in the Garland of Roses Handicap on Dec. 8.
"I thought I would make the lead with her," said jockey Richard Migliore. "She didn't give me the kind of turn of foot I counted on. I knew I was in deep water before the three-eighths pole. She just wasn't taking me. If she showed the speed I thought she was going to, we wouldn't have ended up four wide." (Chart, Equibase
