An on-track crowd of 38,957 watched Fiftyshadesofhay win the $500,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (gr. II) May 17 at Pimlico Race Course.

Pimlico reported the 13-race program generated handle of $13,096,736. The card included the $300,000 Pimlico Special (gr. III) as well as five other stakes each worth $100,000.

In addition, the track hosted the Xpressbet Battle Of the Sexes Pimlico Jockey Challenge won by Emma Jayne-Wilson, and the Legends for the Cure IV race in which eight retired female riders returned to the saddle. Mary Russ-Tortora, who retired in 1994, won the race.

The Legends race was inaugurated in 2010 by Pimlico and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization to raise awareness and money in the fight against breast cancer.

"What a terrific way to start the weekend," Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas said. "Opening the infield was a positive experience and we got a picture-perfect day. Our partnership with Susan G. Komen is a winner as days like this prove."
