Two days before riding Mylute to a fifth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) May 5, jockey Rosie Napravnik was appointed to the board of directors of Old Friends Farm. Michael Blowen, Old Friends president, said the organization is "thrilled to have her" occupy the new seat.

Old Friends Farm is a non-profit Thoroughbred retirement facility based in Georgetown, Ky. with a satellite farm, Old Friends at Cabin Creek, in New York state. They currently care for more than 130 Thoroughbreds and are the only Thoroughbred rescue/retirement facility specializing in the care of stallions.

"Our board has always been made up of people who are really enthusiastic about what we're doing, and that's what we like (about Rosie)," said Blowen about the decision to appoint Napravnik.

An accomplished Thoroughbred jockey with more than $49 million in earnings, Napravnik has been passionate about horses since she was a child. When she's not at the track, it's not unusual to find her on horseback elsewhere or supporting equine organizations like Old Friends.

Blowen and the board of Old Friends appreciate having a younger perspective as part of the organization's governing body. "She's really young and very smart and passionate, and that's what we need!" stated a very excited Blowen.

On May 20, Napravnik will join fellow jockey Calvin Borel at Old Friends for "Calvin Borel Day." They will meet fans, offer photo opportunities, and sign autographs from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information visit the Old Friends website at www.oldfriendsequine.org.
