Hopeful Winner Came Home Returns in San Vicente

All eyes will be on Came Home in Saturday's $150,000 San Vicente Stakes for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs.

Last year's Hopeful Stakes winner will be making his first start since finishing seventh in last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile, but trainer Paco Gonzalez has the homebred son of Gone West ready for a solid performance.

"He's doing very good," Gonzalez said of Came Home, who has three bullet workouts on his tab in advance of the San Vicente. "He's coming to this race as good as you can get him," Gonzalez said.

As far as the future beyond Saturday, Gonzalez considers Came Home Triple Crown timber, but says he'll take it one race at a time.

"I just go race by race," Gonzalez said. "But he has the talent and ability to compete with the top 3-year-olds. I don't know if he'll be able to go a mile and a quarter (the Kentucky Derby distance), but if we do good in this race, we'll try him at one mile (in the San Rafael on March 2)."
