D. Wayne Lukas-trained Scorpion blew out three furlongs in :35 over a Santa Anita track rated "good" Wednesday morning in preparation for Saturday's $400,000 Strub Stakes (gr. II). Scorpion is one of two Strub possibles for Lukas, who is also expected to send out Orientate in the final leg of the three-race Strub series.

In the Jan. 12 San Fernando Breeders' Cup Stakes, Orientate ran head-to-head with eventual winner Western Pride, who set a blistering pace in the race. Orientate worked a half-mile in :48 4/5 on Tuesday.

Also expected in the Strub, restricted to 4-year-olds and run at 1 1/8 miles, are Western Pride, Fancy As, Giant Gentleman, I Love Silver, Mizzen Mast, Momentum, Palmeiro, and Pie N Burger, with Discreet Hero listed as a possible starter.
