Rick Porter, owner of Normandy Invasion, said May 12 the Tapit   colt will not compete in the upcoming Preakness Stakes (gr. I) in favor of a summer campaign instead.

"He's training well and eating well," Porter said of the fourth-place finisher in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I). "Everything is fine with the horse. The two weeks is a little quick coming back. He needs to put some weight back on, so we decided to wait."

Porter said the Jim Dandy Stakes (gr. II) July 27 at Saratoga Race Course or the Haskell Invitational (gr. I) July 28 at Monmouth Park, followed by Saratoga's Travers Stakes (gr. I) Aug. 24, is a likely schedule for Normandy Invasion.

Chad Brown trains the bay colt, who was second in the Wood Memorial Stakes (gr. I) at Aqueduct Racetrack a month before the Kentucky Derby.

"Mr. Porter and I decided to pass on the Preakness with Normandy Invasion and focus on the summer campaign with him," Brown confirmed.

Normandy Invasion turned in a strong performance in the Kentucky Derby, taking the lead in the stretch before finishing fourth, 3 1/2 lengths behind Orb  .

Following the Derby, Brown and Porter had decided against the Preakness for Normandy Invasion, but reconsidered when the colt was doing well in the days immediately after the May 4 race.

Normandy Invasion, out of the Boston Harbor mare Boston Lady, has a win and two seconds from six starts with earnings of $400,240.

Among the challengers Orb is likely to face in the second leg of the Triple Crown are Derby runners Mylute (fifth), Oxbow   (sixth), Will Take Charge (eighth), Itsmyluckyday (15th) and Goldencents (17th), with Vyjack (18th) still under consideration. New shooters include Illinois Derby winner Departing, trainer Bob Baffert's Govenor Charlie, and Titletown Five.
