Bellarmine Won't Compete in Preakness Stakes

Magdalena Racing's Bellarmine, winner of an entry-level allowance race for 3-year-olds at Churchill Downs May 4, won't compete in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I), trainer Ken McPeek said May 7.

Bellarmine, a Kentucky-bred by Magna Graduate  , was on the early list of possible starters for the Preakness, which will be run May 18. In the Churchill allowance race he defeated Code West, who finished a close second in the Risen Star Stakes (gr. II) earlier this year.

"Bellarmine is no-go for the Preakness," McPeek said via Twitter.

Meanwhile, the Maryland Jockey Club said Goldencents, who finished 17th of 19 in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), arrived at Pimlico Race Course at about 1:30 a.m. EDT May 7. The Into Mischief   colt was the first to arrive at Pimlico in advance of the Preakness.
