Louisiana Downs announced Jan. 30 an increase of nearly 40% in its average daily purses for the track's June 28 to Sept. 22 meeting. Horses at the Bossier City, La., racetrack will run for $200,000 per day this summer.
Louisiana Downs is expecting to add slot machines to its operation in the near future. It has been approved, but the facility must undergo renovations to accomodate them.
A master plan for Louisiana Downs closely resembles Woodbine Race Course, near Toronto, where a casino is the first floor of the grandstand. The second and third floors of Louisiana Downs, like Woodbine, would be devoted to horseracing.
