Trainer Mike Maker was represented by his 1,000th career winner March 16 when Magical Season won the third race at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots (VIDEO).
A 4-year-old gelded son of Value Plus owned by William J. Butler, Magical Season ran the 5 1/2 furlongs on turf in 1:03.70 in the $24,000 claiming race.
A 44-year-old native of Michigan, Maker began his career at Detroit Race Course and Hazel Park in Michigan, working with his father, George Maker. In 1993, Maker began a 10-year stint with Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas and established his own stable in 2003.
Among the top horses trained by Maker have been 2011 champion 2-year-old colt Hansen , grade I winner Stately Victor , and stakes winners Artemus Kitten, Derby Kitten, and Juanita.
