Trainer Bill White said Kiss A Native, owned by John Franks, will run in Saturday's Ft. Lauderdale Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream Park as a prep for the Donn Handicap (gr. I) Feb. 9 at the same south Florida oval. "We were looking for an appropriate prep for the Donn," said White. "The Skip Away didn't really fit for us because Kiss A Native had run in both the Kenny Noe and the F. W. Hooper two weeks apart, and that would have been another race two weeks after that. We thought that was a little too close."Mr. Franks was the one that came up with the idea of running in the Ft. Lauderdale (1 1/16 miles). We figured that since he was undefeated on the grass anyway, and has grass breeding, we might as well run in this race Saturday and see how he does over the grass down here. However, the Donn is our priority. The Donn remains our primary objective."Kiss a Native breezed a half-mile Tuesday at Calder Race Course in :49 2/5 and 1:03 for five eighths the previous Wednesday at that same oval.
