Churchill Downs' second Kentucky Derby Future Wager concluded March 3 with the Mutuel Field, or "All Others" garnering much of the attention as the 3-1 favorite.
"All Others" refers to all 3-year-olds other than the 23 that were named individually in the pool, which is the second of three wagering pools for the 2013 Derby. The race is May 4.
Let's Go Stable's Verrazano, one of six horses in the just-concluded pool trained by Todd Pletcher, was the top individual horse at odds of 9-1. A winner of both of his career starts this year, the son of More Than Ready is expected to make his stakes but in the Tamp Bay Derby (gr. II) March 9. Verrazano was also the favored individual at 11-1 in the Feb. 8-10 opening pool.
Following Verrazano was Vyjack (11-1), who won the Gotham Stakes (gr. III) March 2. Two horses at 12-1 are Orb, winner of the Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth (gr. II) Feb. 23, and Robert B. Lewis Stakes (gr. II) winner Flashback, expected to race in the San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) March 9. Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) winner Itsmyluckyday continued to draw solid support at 13-1, as did Revolutionary (15-1), 2-year-old champ Shanghai Bobby (16-1), Normandy Invasion (17-1), and Super Ninety Nine (17-1),
Kentucky Derby wagering totaled $407,039 in Pool 2. Overall betting in the pair of 2013KDFW pools now stands at $1,029,532. Pool 2 wagering included $287,612 in win betting and $119,427 in exactas, and its overall total was the fourth-largest in Pool 2 since the Kentucky Derby Future Wager was introduced in 1999.
The final KDFW pool of 2013 is scheduled for March 22-24.
