Churchill Downs' second Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool opened March 1 with undefeated Verrazano the top individual betting choice at 10-1 and the "all others" betting interest the 8-5 overall pick when betting closed late in the day.
Betting in the second of three KDFW pools at tracks and off-track betting facilities and through interactive and advance deposit wagering platforms concludes at 6 p.m. (EST) Sunday, March 3. This year's Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands will be run May 4.
The Mutuel Field, or "All Others," includes all 3-year-old Thoroughbreds other than the 23 horses on KDFW Pool 2's roster of betting interests. A total $49,937 was wagered March 1 in "win" bets and $12,350 in exactas.
Verrazano, the 10-1 co-favorite in Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia's Pool 2 morning line, is one of six horses in the pool trained by Todd Pletcher. Following Verrazzano were three horses at 12-1: Flashback, Itsmyluckyday, and Orb. Flashback is one of five Pool 2 betting interests trained by three-time Kentucky Derby winner Bob Baffert.
Following that group at 13-1 were Revolutionary and Super Ninety Nine, at 18-1. Reigning 2-year-old champion Shanghai Bobby closed the day as a 20-1 risk.
