The postal system in New Zealand has issued stamps depicting two-time Australian Horse of the Year Sunline and five other horses. According to the New Zealand Post's Web site, issuance of the stamps and a silver coin is in conjunction with the Chinese Lunar Calendar's "Year of the Horse."

Trained by Trevor McKee, Sunline has won or placed in 37 of 40 career starts, with earnings of $5,265,956 (converted to U.S.). A three-time Horse of the Year honoree in her native country, Sunline has 27 victories to her credit, including the 2000 Hong Kong Mile (HK-I). In addition, last year the 7-year-old daughter of Desert Sun finished third in the Dubai Duty Free (UAE-II).

Other horses featured on the stamps are top New Zealand and Australian sire Zabeel, and the Ethereal, who became only the third mare to win the Caulfield-Melbourne Cup double in 2001. Three harness horses honored with stamps are Christian Cullen, Lyell Creek, and Yulestar.

The Web site notes that the Chinese, which celebrated the Year of the Horse in 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, and 1990, associate the horse with "energy, happiness, confidence, and success."
