Trilogy Stable and Laurie Plesa's 3-year-old Itsmyluckyday, aiming for the Florida Derby (gr. I) next month, worked a half mile in :48 4/5 the morning of Feb. 23 at Calder Casino & Race Course for trainer Eddie Plesa Jr..
It was his first breeze since his impressive two-length victory over previously undefeated Eclipse champion Shanghai Bobby in the $400,000 Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park.
"It was exactly what I was looking for," said Plesa later in the morning. "I got him galloping out (five furlongs) in 1:01. He's right on schedule. He'll probably work about every seven days, although I might change it up on him one of those times with an easy mile work. I haven't decided."
Regular exercise rider Isidorio Ramos was in the saddle on the son of Lawyer Ron, who won the one-mile Gulfstream Park Derby on New Year's Day before also capturing the 1 1/16-mile Holy Bull Jan. 26. He is on target for a rematch with Shanghai Bobby in the $1 million Florida Derby (gr. I) going 1 1/8 miles March 30.
While Itsmyluckyday sits out the Feb. 23 Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II), Plesa will still be represented in the 1 1/16-mile test with Hardaway Stable's Speak Logistics, listed at 12-to-1 on the morning line. The son of High Cotton finished fourth with trouble last out in the $250,000 Sam Davis Stakes (gr. III) at Tampa Bay Downs Feb. 2.
