Gold Fever Colt Tops First Session Of Classic Sale In Australia

A Gold Fever colt brought the top price of $180,000 ($97,470 American) Monday during the first session of the Classic yearling sale conducted by William Inglis & Son in Australia. Consigned by Reaville Farm, he was purchased by Sam Li for his Pastore Pty. Ltd. racing syndicate. Li also bought two Strategic colts for $75,000 ($40,612) and $50,000 ($27,075).

Produced from the 25-year-old Beau Sovereign mare Born Rich, the colt is a half-brother to three added-money winners, including The Heavyweight (by Zeditave), who captured the 1992 Australia Airlines Maribyrnong Plate (Aus-II).

Two other yearlings brought six-figure prices. Inglis, as agent, bought a Danzero--Trojan Affair colt from Willow Park Stud, agent, for $160,000 ($86,640). Leading Melbourne trainer Lee Freedman purchased an Encosta de Lago--Slew Buckaroo colt from Kooringal Stud, agent, for $140,000 ($75,810).

Three other yearlings sold for $80,000 ($43,320) apiece: a Gold Fever--Calin Deas colt, a Strategic--Winged Hope colt, and a Timber Country--Zali colt.

In all, 160 yearlings were sold for a gross of $4,474,000 ($2,422,671) and an average price of $27,962 ($15,141).
