Grade I winner Dayatthespa was named Horse of the Year for 2012 by the North Carolina Thoroughbred Association Feb. 2 at its annual awards dinner. Dayatthespa scored her biggest win last year as a 3-year-old in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (gr. IT) at Keeneland for owners Jerry and Ronald Frankel, Steve Laymon, and Bradley Thoroughbreds.
Nancy Shuford picked up top honors as breeder. Her homebred Doubled won the Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park and was named champion 2-year-old.
Doubled's half sister, Dancinginherdreams, was honored as allowance filly or mare.
Mayan Milagra, dam of the two champions, was broodmare of the year.
