Arena Elvira, a grade II winner by Ghostzapper  , has been retired from racing to become a broodmare for owner Carolyn Wilson. The 6-year-old mare, who went out a winner when capturing the Jan. 1 Ladies Handicap at Aqueduct Jan. 1, is booked to Tapit  .

Purchased by Wilson for $210,000 at the 2009 Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. March sale of 2-year-olds in training, Arena Elvira won five consecutive stakes including the Falls City Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs and the Turnback the Alarm Handicap (gr. III) at Aqueduct. Trained by Bill Mott, she was retired with a record of 9-3-3 from 17 starts and earnings of $497,396.

Bred in Kentucky by Northwest Farms LLC, Arena Elvira is out of the multiple grade II stakes-winning Twining mare Two Item Limit.

Arena Elvira, who currently is at Belmont Park, will be sent to Marty Takacs' Belvedere Farm near Paris, Ky. Once in foal, she will be moved to Wilson's Bay Tree Farm in Florida.
