Headed by Hollywood Futurity winner Siphonic, six 3-year-olds have been entered for Saturday's $150,000 Santa Catalina Stakes (gr. II) going 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita Park.
Leading the field is John and Jerry Amerman's Siphonic, the West Coast's leading Triple Crown candidate. Trainer David Hofmans gave Siphonic a chance to acclimate himself with his surroundings Thursday.
"He stood in the starting gate, galloped once around (with exercise rider Martin De Rubin) and then went into the paddock," the conditioner said.
Siphonic, third in the 2001 Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I), has won three of four career starts for $703,978, and completed Santa Catalina preparations Sunday at Hollywood Park by covering seven furlongs in 1:26.40.
The field for the Santa Catalina includes: National Park (Corey Nakatani, 113); Siphonic (Jerry Bailey, 123); Major Storm (Mike Smith, 113); Cottonwood Cowboy (Alex Solis, 113); Kedington (Chris McCarron, 113); and Lambata Babe (Kent Desormeaux, 113).
