Jockey Kevin Krigger, who was unseated when his mount, Ricspretentiousgal, clipped heels during the stretch run of the fifth race at Santa Anita Park Jan. 18, was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena for examination.
Original winner Indecise, ridden by Garrett Gomez, was disqualified after the incident, which occurred inside the eighth pole of the one-mile turf race. Indecise, after shifting out slightly in traffic, was placed last by the stewards for interference in the allowance optional claiming event.
The Santa Anita publicity office reported that neither horse appeared to be seriously injured, although Ricspretentiousgal was vanned off the course.
A native of St. Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Krigger had three wins Jan. 17 at Santa Anita and is currently tied for eighth in the jockey standings with seven wins overall.
He has received a good deal of national attention of late, as he is the regular rider of leading Kentucky Derby hopeful Goldencents, who was a winner of the Sham Stakes (gr. III) Jan. 5.
