Horse of the Year finalist Fort Larned breezed a half-mile in 48 2/5 on the morning of Jan. 18 at Palm Meadows Training Center, his first recorded workout since his victory in last fall's Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I).

Besides his stunning half-length victory over Mucho Macho Man in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park, Fort Larned also captured the Whitney Invitational Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course last year.
A winner of five of nine starts and more than $3.5 million in 2012, Fort Larned is a finalist for an Eclipse Award in the Older Horse category in addition to Horse of the Year. Winners will be announced during the award ceremony at Gulfstream Park Jan. 19.
Out of the Broad Brush mare Arlucea, the bay horse has won eight of 19 starts in his career while banking $3,681,236.
