Eye of the Leopard

Eye of the Leopard  , a Canadian champion and classic-winning son of A.P. Indy, has been retired from racing and will enter stud for $10,000 at Calumet Farm near Lexington.

Bluegrass Hall, whose principal, Brad Kelley, leases Calumet, purchased Eye of the Leopard in the second half of 2012 when the horse was 6.

Ontario-bred Eye of the Leopard, who initially raced for his breeder, Sam-Son Farms, won Canada's classic Queen's Plate Stakes the year of his championship in 2009. He also captured that year's Plate Trial Stakes and ran third in the Prince of Wales Stakes, the second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. He later placed twice in the Valedictory Stakes at Woodbine including once when it was grade III event. He was retired with a record of 5-3-3 from 24 starts and earnings of $920,517.

Eye of the Leopard, a full brother to multiple stakes winner Hotep, is out of Canadian champion Eye of the Sphynx. By Smart Strike  , Eye of the Sphynx is a half sister to the stakes-winning dam of Canadian Horse of the Year Quiet Resolve.

Eye of the Leopard is bred on a similar breeding cross as important sires Bernardini   and Mineshaft  , both of which were champion runners. All three are by A.P. Indy out of Mr. Prospector-line mares.
