The Maryland Jockey Club unveiled the logo for the 2002 Preakness Stakes on May 18. The logo, created by The Leffler Agency of Baltimore, Md. and Tampa, Fla., features a horse and jockey, and the Black-Eyed Susan flower against the backdrop of Pimlico's historic cupola. There is a yellow and purple color scheme incorporated into the design.
"We are pleased to be working, once again, with the Leffler Agency to design a logo that captures and celebrates the look and feel that defines Preakness," said Karin De Francis, senior vice president of marketing and public relations for the Maryland Jockey Club. "The new colors, combined with the time-honored Preakness elements, symbolize the Maryland Jockey Club's commitment to tradition, but with a fresh and innovative twist."
