Twelve Reach Six Figures at Magic Millions
A session-topping Real Saga colt for $240,000 ($252,929 in United States funds) was one of a dozen horses to sell for six figures at the fifth session of the Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale in Australia Jan. 13.
The colt, out of the winning Strategic mare Maxy Legs, was purchased by Robert Anderson's RMA Bloodstock and will join the stables of leading Gold Coast trainer Noel Doyle.
"We really liked the horse," Anderson said of the colt, who was offered by Widden Stud. Real Saga, an Australian-bred multiple group winning son of Tale of the Cat , will stand his fifth season in 2013 at Glenlogan Park in Queensland.
"He's a big, strong, well-grown (colt) and we picked him out a number of days ago."
Overall, 160 of 192 horses offered sold for total receipts of $7,438,500 ($7,839,063 U.S.), up 6.8% from last year’s corresponding session. The average price of $46,491 ($48,995) climbed 17.4%, and median was up a healthy 24% to $40,000 ($42,157).
The clearance rate improved to 83.4%, compared with 77.6% in 2012.
"It was a solid day's selling and it was very pleasing to see healthy increases across the average, gross, and median," Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox said.
"Astute buyers were at the sale and no doubt purchased some great value horses. This session is renowned for producing countless black type performers each year."
The sixth and final session of the Gold Coast yearling sale will be held Jan. 15 beginning at 11 a.m. Queensland time.
