Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) winner Beholder continues her progress toward her 3-year-old debut in the Santa Ynez Stakes (gr. II) later this month with a six-furlong drill Jan. 11.
With Garrett Gomez aboard, Spendthrift Farm's daughter of Henny Hughes was clocked in 1:13 flat on Santa Anita's fast main track, second swiftest of 16 at the distance.
Beholder is scheduled to race Jan. 21, Martin Luther King Day, in the Santa Ynez, a 6 1/2-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies. Prior to her most recent work, she drilled five furlongs in a flashy :58 4/5 Jan. 4, best of 51 that morning.
"Her last work was the big one," trainer Richard Mandella said. "Today was just a maintenance work, but it was terrific."
Beholder, the favorite to win an Eclipse Award as the nation's leading 2-year-old filly. During her juvenile campaign, she won three of five starts and earned $1,215,000.
Bred in Kentucky by Clarkland Farm, she is out of the Tricky Creek mare Leslie's Lady.
