Grade I Winner Tizway Sires First Foal

The first reported foal by multiple grade I winner Tizway   is a dark bay or brown filly born Jan. 9 at Lynn Alexander's Alastar Farm near Nicholasville, Ky. Tizway stands at B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm near Lexington.

Bred by Alastar Thoroughbred Company, the newborn filly is the first foal out of the winning Empire Maker mare Spanish Empiress, who is out of stakes winner and group I producer Miraloma (by Deputy Minister).

"This filly is extremely athletic-looking and just a nice individual all around," said Ramona Good, farm manager and pedigree expert at Alastar. "She has really good size and bone, and you can already tell she's very bright. She popped right up and acted as if she'd been here all along."

The filly was bred as a result of Alastar participating in Spendthrift's "Share The Upside" program for Tizway, where the breeder earns a lifetime breeding right in the stallion for breeding a mare the first two years on a stands and nurses basis.

Tizway (Tiznow  Bethany, by Dayjur) won the 2011 Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I) and the Whitney Invitational Handicap (gr. I) and the previous year's Kelso Handicap (gr. II). His 2013 fee is $25,000.
